Meal Plans

What meal plan is best for me/my student?

The Unlimited meal plan is the ultimate plan for students, offering flexibility, value and convenience With this plan, students can eat at their residence hall whenever they want – whether they’re looking for a sit down meal or a quick snack. Plus, the Unlimited plan has the best value (with the lowest average price per meal) and comes with $100 FlexDine that can be used at coffee shops, convenience stores and food courts on campus.

Additionally, the 14 meals per week is our standard and most popular plan. The 14 meals per week plan provides consistency to your day with a set number of meals per week. You can use your meal swipes however you want throughout the week at any of our all-you-care-to-eat residential restaurants on campus. This plan also comes with $100 FlexDine.

Do I have a meal plan?

Students living in the nine traditional residence halls (Bailey, Centennial, Comstock, Frontier, Middlebrook, Pioneer, Sanford, Territorial and 17th Avenue) must select a residential meal plan. There are no exceptions. Please consider this before signing your application-contract. Students can change their meal plan within the first two weeks of fall semester. Cooking is permitted only in residence hall kitchenette areas and in University apartment kitchens.

What is FlexDine and where do I use it?

Along with access to the residential restaurants, each meal plan comes with extra FlexDine dollars that can be used at any of our retail stores on campus. These on-campus dining dollars are loaded right on to your U Card for the ultimate convenience – perfect for grabbing a Starbucks coffee on the way to class or restocking your mini-fridge at the convenience store in your residence hall! FlexDine works like cash to purchase beverages, snacks or full meals in our restaurants, coffee shops and even TCF Bank Stadium concession stands. (Plus, you can even order Papa John’s pizza with your FlexDine to be delivered to your university building!)

How do I check my FlexDine/Meal Plan balance?

Each time you use your meal plan or FlexDine you can ask the cashier for your balance. You may also contact the meal plan office at 612-624-0558 or check your balances online at http://www.gophergold.umn.edu/balance.php.

What if I run out of FlexDine?

FlexDine can be reloaded at any time online at dining.umn.edu or by phone at 612-624-0558. Additionally, each of the three meal plans comes with the option to purchase an upgrade. Now, you can add $150 extra FlexDine dollars to your plan at the beginning of the semester – perfect for the student using weekly swipes for sit down dinners in the residential restaurants and extra FlexDine for quick stops at Erbert & Gerbert’s, Papa John’s, Starbucks or Caribou Coffee.

Do my FlexDine dollars expire?

FlexDine balances remaining on your U Card at the end of each semester will remain available for your use until they are used or until one year of inactivity occurs on the account. After one year of inactivity, any funds remaining will revert back to the University of Minnesota.

If you/your student decides that the 14 meals per week plan fits your schedule, you will automatically be charged to your student account. You can change or upgrade your plan within the first two weeks of school (by September 12, 2014) on the Housing and Residential website at housing.umn.edu.

What are AFO/FPO/DPO addresses?

APO and FPO addresses allow the postal service to efficiently deliver mail to active duty military members serving overseas. When the mail arrives at the APO or FPO, the staff will send the mail onto the proper division of the military to which the addressee belongs. The division then delivers the mail to the individual.

How do I increase password security?

Your password should be at least 8 characters that include upper and lower case characters, numbers, and symbols. You should always use a unique password for each website you use; that way, if one account gets compromised, the rest are safe. Other ways to ensure the security of your password include:

    • If passwords must be written down on a piece of paper, store the paper in  a secure place and destroy it when it is no longer needed.

    • Never share passwords with anyone.

    • Change passwords immediately if they may have been compromised.

    • Be careful about where passwords are saved on computers. Some dialog boxes present an option to save or remember a password. Selecting this option poses a potential security threat.

How do I use variants?

Have your food your way! Choose from our variant options to customize your meal exactly how you want it. Please note any charges that might be associated with adding additional variants to your meal.

What is a CVV?

The Card Validation Code is a 3 digit number set that uniquely identifies your credit card.

Visa/Mastercard and Discover Users

Flip your card over and look at the signature box. You should see either the entire 16-digit credit card number or just the last four digits followed by a special 3-digit code. This 3-digit code is your Card Security Code.

American Express Credit Card Users
Look for the 4-digit code printed on the front of your card just above and to the right of your main credit card number. This 4-digit code is your Card Identification Number (CID). The CID is the four-digit code printed just above the Account Number.
